[Press Release] AI Film “The Wrong Visitor” Produced by MooAm Wins Grand Prize at CGV AI Film Contest

▶ First AI contest hosted by a theater chain—honored for its philosophical narrative
MooAm announced that its AI short film The Wrong Visitor (written & directed by Harry Hyun) has won the Grand Prize at the “AI Film Contest,” the first AI competition organized by CGV. The contest accepted 10–20-minute works created with generative AI under the themes “Hero,” “Villain,” or “Free.” After preliminaries, 15 finalists were screened. The official jury consisted of Director Eom Tae-hwa, Writer Kim Jung-hyuk, Science Communicator Gwedo, and Director Jung Chang-ik. About 7,000 viewers took part in the online vote. Judging criteria were storytelling 40 %, creativity 30 %, and technical execution 30 %.
▶ Generative AI visualizes the philosophy of death and consciousness
The Wrong Visitor unfolds in a mysterious white void, where a wolf escorting beasts beyond a red door meets a lamb that appears in human form. By combining generative-AI imagery with a fairy-tale aesthetic, the film depicts the cyclical nature of death and consciousness and was praised for harmonizing technology and narrative. The production team included Director Harry Hyun and leading Korean AI artists Grimdal (Kim Sang-rae) and Saengcho (Yang Sol-ji). Every stage—from storyboard to AI direction and image generation—was meticulously designed to embed strong symbolism within the short running time.
▶ Acceptance speech: “Film with AI, not Film by AI”
The jury commented, “Using the driest tool—AI—to tackle powerful symbolism and ontology results in an experimental narrative,” and, “Its grotesque quality resembles a bizarre picture book brought to life.” Director Hyun said, “While making this work, I felt an ‘AI film’ should be a ‘Film with AI,’ not a ‘Film by AI.’ We hope to share with audiences the opportunities opened by AI-enabled production.”
▶ Moving into feature production and wider partnerships with broadcasters and OTT platforms
Building on this award, MooAm has begun developing an AI-driven feature film. The company plans to expand AI-based creation through partnerships with domestic broadcasters and OTT services. Director Hyun added, “Whether AI can create films that linger emotionally—and whether AI is merely a tool or a partner—remains an open question. We will keep experimenting at the boundary of AI’s potential and human storytelling to explore emotions beyond technology.”
