Dong-Ah Institute of Media and Arts (DIMA) has announced its collaboration with K-content production company MooAm to launch a large-scale project that reinterprets 26 Korean folktales using generative AI technology.

MooAm has included some of Korea’s most well-known folktales, such as Heungbu and Nolbu, Janghwa and Hongryeon, Brother and Sister Who Became the Sun and Moon, and The Devoted Daughter, Simcheong in the lineup. In addition, modern Korean literary works such as Baek Seok’s Natasha, the White Donkey, and Me and Yi Sang’s Wings and Mirror have also been added.

A MooAm representative stated, “This project is a challenge to revive Korean literature with a modern sensibility.”

The project is integrated with the P³BL (Projects, Problems, Products) method-based courses at DIMA’s Film Production Department, allowing students to directly experience the fusion of AI technology with traditional folktales.

Students at DIMA’s Film Production Department have not only reimagined folktales but also recreated six of Yi Sang’s novels and poems into AI-generated videos, showcasing unique and creative ideas.

Student Kim In-wook, who transformed Bongbyeolgi into Bonghyeolgi, shared his experience, saying, “Through this project, I realized how quickly AI is advancing. Instead of fearing it, we should actively embrace and utilize it.”

Professor Han Seon-ok, head of DIMA’s Film Production Department, stated, “We are creating a learning environment that aligns with our goal of hands-on education, allowing students to tackle real-world industry challenges. Through our collaboration with MooAm, students gain firsthand experience in AI content planning, production, and marketing.”

To enhance quality, MooAm is actively collaborating with AI artist Grimdal, who works as an art director specializing in generative AI tools and digital video production.

MooAm, widely recognized for its AI Dark Fairy Tales series, has garnered international attention, having participated in the Cannes Series for two consecutive years and won awards at 12 global film festivals.

A MooAm representative emphasized, “The combination of AI technology and Korean storytelling has limitless potential. By leveraging cost-efficient production methods, we aim to rapidly create high-quality traditional fantasy and sci-fi content and position it as globally competitive K-content.”
