▶ Building on experience in global OTT original production, MooAm expands creative options by connecting live-action filming with AI, VFX, and DI.

Just because a director creates a scene with AI doesn't mean it can immediately be used in a feature film. Film production studio MooAm (CEO Harry Hyun) unveiled its hybrid production pipeline—a system designed to seamlessly integrate live-action filming, AI, VFX, and DI—at the Creator Demo during the 'AI Film Festival Japan 2026' in Tokyo on the 1st.

During the Creator Demo, MooAm introduced its proprietary AI Hybrid Production Lab alongside plans for upcoming projects. Director Harry Hyun, who participated as an international jury member, attended the official panel on the 31st of last month and also took charge of judging and presenting awards.

Drawing on its extensive experience in both independent and commercial film production, MooAm has continuously worked on applying AI to cinema. Directed by Hyun, the film "Crypto Man" took the #1 spot on Netflix Korea's "Top 10 Movies Today" list in April of last year, while the AI short film "The Wrong Visitor" won the Grand Prize at the 1st CGV AI Film Festival.

Recently, building on its experience producing AI cuts for global OTT original series, the studio has been developing a production pipeline that seamlessly merges live-action footage with generative AI. Even when a director’s desired scene is brought to life via AI, deploying it in an actual feature film requires rigorous consideration of its integration with original live-action plates, visual consistency across the screen, and the stringent QC and delivery requirements for the final master.

Primary technical challenges include stuttering (choppy motion between frames), frame-match discrepancies between cuts, aliasing around screen edges, and jarring differences in color and texture between live-action and AI-generated zones. These factors directly impact the naturalness with which audiences perceive a scene and the overall cinematic quality intended by the director.

To address these hurdles, MooAm established its own AI production environment, which begins by delineating the zones of the original live-action footage to be preserved from those requiring AI implementation. Elements best served by practical shooting are retained from the original plates, while AI is selectively applied to areas that are difficult to realize using traditional methods.

The studio has also engineered its post-production workflow—encompassing AI generation, VFX compositing, and DI—to share specifications right from the initial stages. By factoring in the requirements for compositing, color grading, and final mastering early on, MooAm minimizes the need for re-dos and strictly manages the quality of every single cut.

"At MooAm, we first consider which technology is best suited to translate the scene the director has envisioned onto the screen," stated Director Hyun. "AI is simply one of the production tools we can choose during that process."

MooAm is currently recruiting AI Production Supervisors and Project Managers with prior experience in VFX studios. The studio is building a production system centered around specialized personnel who deeply understand cinematic scenes and directorial intent, with plans to apply its proprietary pipeline to upcoming film and video projects slated for 2027.
