[ETNews] "The Hurdle of AI Film Isn't Generation, but Delivery"… MooAm Unveils Its AI-Hybrid Production Pipeline

 At the Creator Demo held during the AI Film Festival Japan 2026 in Tokyo on the 1st, film production studio MooAm (CEO Harry Hyun) unveiled its hybrid production pipeline, demonstrating how generative AI videos are polished into final delivery cuts for feature films.

Participating as an international jury member for the festival, Director Harry Hyun took part in the official panel on the 31st of last month and was entrusted with judging and presenting awards. During the Creator Demo, she introduced the AI-hybrid production pipeline that MooAm has developed on actual film sets, along with the studio's upcoming projects.

Through producing AI cuts utilized in global OTT original series, MooAm has accumulated substantial hands-on experience in meeting project-specific QC standards and final delivery specifications. For AI-generated footage to be used in an actual production, it must not only cut seamlessly with the preceding and following live-action shots, but also satisfy the technical requirements of the final master, including resolution, frame rate, bitrate, HDR, and color management.

One of the primary technical challenges is stuttering—a phenomenon where motion appears choppy or jerky between consecutive frames. Frame-match discrepancies between cuts, aliasing around screen edges, and variations in color and texture between live-action and AI-generated elements are also critical factors that must be addressed during post-production. Even if an individual AI-generated clip looks natural on its own, disparities can become glaringly obvious when spliced with live-action plates.

To address these rigorous production conditions, MooAm has established its own proprietary AI production environment. The workflow involves first delineating the areas of the original live-action plates to be retained from the zones requiring AI integration, and then selectively applying generative AI only where necessary.

A defining feature of this pipeline is that it is engineered to allow traditional VFX and DI specialists to share compositing criteria, color spaces, and final mastering requirements right from the initial AI generation phase. This proactive approach significantly mitigates the burden of revisions and regenerations in post-production while ensuring absolute visual consistency throughout the entire project.

"Our guiding principle is 'Film with AI, not by AI,'" stated Director Hyun. "For every single AI cut, we first question why it needs to be there, and we relentlessly verify its quality until it functions seamlessly within the actual film."

Directed by Hyun, the film "Crypto Man" clinched the #1 spot on Netflix Korea's "Top 10 Movies Today" list in April of last year, while the AI short film "The Wrong Visitor" took home the Grand Prize at the 1st CGV AI Film Festival.

MooAm is currently recruiting AI Production Supervisors and Project Managers with prior VFX studio experience. Building on its accumulated production expertise and proprietary pipeline, the studio is actively preparing its slate of film and video projects for 2027.
