Song Jae-rim's posthumous work 'Crypto Man' has been streaming on Netflix since the 23rd. According to Netflix on the 25th, 'Crypto Man' has recorded the #1 position in 'Today's Top 10 Movies in South Korea' just two days after its Netflix release.
'Crypto Man,' which was released in theaters last January, is a film inspired by the true story of the global cryptocurrency crash that evaporated 50 trillion won. Through the chronicle of a young entrepreneur who makes an irreversible choice, it portrays the behind-the-scenes of startup investments and the reality of young people addicted to a get-rich-quick mentality—stocks by day, cryptocurrency by night. This is the final work of Song Jae-rim, who passed away last year. In 'Crypto Man,' Song Jae-rim delivers a powerful and timely performance as the protagonist Yang Do-hyun, a self-proclaimed business genius who develops a cryptocurrency called MOMMY. Former current affairs PD Hyun Hae-ri directed the film, with Ahn Woo-yeon, Min Sung-wook, and So Hee-jung co-starring.
When 'Crypto Man' was released in theaters last January, it only attracted around 20,000 viewers, overshadowed by new releases. However, after its Netflix release, it has risen to the #1 viewing rank, with many saying it has finally received the recognition it deserves.
In particular, this film is not only inspired by the Luna coin incident that created numerous victims in South Korea, but the director reportedly incorporated her own experiences as a victim of the incident.
Song Jae-rim's performance has also drawn attention. Director Hyun Hae-ri remembered Song Jae-rim, saying, "He had very extensive knowledge about stocks and cryptocurrency" and "He contributed many ideas from the planning stage and was such a warm person," mourning his passing.
In the film, Song Jae-rim portrayed the role of 'Yang Do-hyun,' delicately and intensely expressing the process of a successful young entrepreneur's sudden downfall.
Min Sung-wook said of Song Jae-rim, "Unlike his cool image, he was a friend who was very sincere about acting," and "His eye acting in the final scene was truly amazing. This seems like Song Jae-rim's best work. I miss him a lot."
