The renowned Odessa Philharmonic Orchestra, one of the top orchestras from Eastern Europe and a pride of Ukraine, will hold its first-ever performance in Korea on October 2 at the Aram Concert Hall, ARAM NURI ARTS CENTER. This event is supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Foundation for International Cultural Exchange (KOFICE) under the 2024 Bilateral International Cultural Collaboration Support project. It promises to be a meaningful stage that transcends the pain of war and promotes a message of peace.

Under the baton of Hobart Earle, who has led the orchestra for 32 years and received the title of People's Artist from the Ukrainian government, the concert will feature Kim Jun-hee, winner of the 2017 Vladimir Horowitz International Piano Competition, as a soloist. This performance will mark the Korean premiere of several Ukrainian pieces, including Bortkiewicz's Piano Concerto No. 1.

The collaboration with Kim Jun-hee was planned right after his victory at the Horowitz Competition, but was delayed for seven years due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the war. Kim, a pianist with high recognition in Europe, continues his special connection with Ukraine through this performance.

Despite the ongoing war, which limits electricity and water usage to only four hours a day and has imposed a travel ban on men, a significant number of female members will participate in this performance. The orchestra's determination to convey a message of hope through art is evident even amidst these challenging conditions.

The "Korea-Ukraine Collaboration Classical Music Concert" will be free of charge, allowing more people to share in the emotional experience. It is expected to be a historic stage filled with the earnest desire for peace that transcends cultural exchanges between the two countries.

Moreover, the production company MooAm is set to create a documentary about the preparation process and the heartfelt stories of the Ukrainian musicians involved. Directed by Harry Hyun, who has received multiple accolades including an invitation to the New York International Film Awards and awards at the New York Independent Film Festival, the documentary will feature behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with the members.

This documentary aims to go beyond just documenting a performance, delving deeply into the lives and passions of Ukrainian artists living through the war, and the cultural exchange between Korea and Ukraine. It seeks to broadly convey the message of peace through music.

This concert will not only be a cultural exchange but a special experience that delivers a message of peace to both Ukrainian artists enduring hard times and Korean audiences. The resonance of peace conveyed through music is expected to spread beyond the two nations to the world.
