MooAm (CEO & Director Harry Hyun) announced that "Nine Times Fired" (co-directed by Harry Hyun and Hanseok Na), a film that garnered global attention for its realistic yet humorous portrayal of the struggles faced by young contract workers, will be released to home audiences via domestic IPTV and VOD platforms on October 2.
"Nine Times Fired" follows the survival story of Gyu-ji Jung (Soo-ah Son), a protagonist dubbed the "deadpan icon" for her perfectly emotionless demeanor at work, yet someone who has never once held a permanent position. The film depicts her journey as she becomes the ultimate "god of contract work," navigating nine different jobs—from a convenience store clerk to a startup employee and a fixed-term civil servant—all on temporary contracts. Grounded in thorough research involving interviews with actual workers across nine industries and internet memes, the film focuses on the resilience of a younger generation that keeps getting back up despite repeated failures.
The protagonist, Gyu-ji Jung, is played by actress Soo-ah Son, daughter of TV personality Kyung-sil Lee. Son masterfully captures the sorrows of a generation struggling against a harsh reality, delivering a deeply relatable performance with her stoic, emotionless gaze.
The film’s international achievements are equally remarkable. Following its global debut as a showcase selection at the 2023 CANNESERIES, it swept multiple awards at prestigious international events, including the New York International Film Awards (NYIFA), Los Angeles Film Awards (LAFA), and San Diego Film Awards (SDFA). The film’s selection for the upcoming Bucheon Labor Film Festival in November further proves its cinematic quality both at home and abroad.
Starting October 2, "Nine Times Fired" will be available on 12 major platforms, including TVING, Coupang Play, Wavve, Watcha, Apple TV, as well as KT Genie TV, SK Btv, and LGU+tv.
Meanwhile, MooAm once again demonstrated its AI hybrid production efficiency by integrating AFX (AI VFX)—a generative AI technology—into parts of the production process for "Nine Times Fired".
Alongside the recent start of principal photography for MooAm's original AI hybrid feature "The Unchangeable", the studio continues to achieve significant global milestones, with its AFX-utilized film "What We Saw" being invited to prominent film festivals such as the Kaohsiung Film Festival in Taiwan and HKLGFF 2026.
"Driven by original creative planning and a robust AI hybrid production pipeline, we will continue to deliver well-made K-content that holds a strong competitive edge in the global market," a MooAm representative stated.
