K-content production company 'MooAm' was finally selected in the AI technology utilization content category for the 'AI Cruel Fairy Tale' project in the 2024 Broadcasting and OTT sector planning and development support project of the Korea Communications Commission (KCA).

'AI Cruel Fairy Tales' is a short-form SF dark thriller series that reinterprets traditional Korean fairy tales using AI technology. It is based on six traditional Korean fairy tales, including 'The Tale of Janghwa and Hongryeon', 'The Tale of Heungbu and Bu', 'The Brothers and Sisters Who Became the Sun and the Moon', and 'The Devoted Daughter Simcheong'. The company expects that the unique imagination of traditional fairy tales and the creative interpretation of AI technology will meet to create innovative K-content targeting the global market.
MooAm IP Division expressed its ambition, saying, “Just as the fairy tales of Andersen and the Brothers Grimm became global IPs through modern reinterpretations, we will create a new global trend through the rediscovery of Korean traditional fairy tales.”
He continued, “We have currently started production on ‘AI Cruel Fairy Tales,’” and added, “Generative AI can create wonderful and splendid visuals, but the most important thing is ‘content’ and ‘content narrative.’ We will focus on reinterpreting Korea’s excellent traditional fairy tales and presenting them in a new way.”
MooAm CEO Hyun Hae-ri said, “In the current production stage, we are mainly using foreign generative AI technology, but we also plan to actively introduce domestic AI technology,” and “Since the speed of development of AI technology in our country is very fast and its Korean processing capability is excellent, it will be even more suitable for Korean content production.”
He continued, “Unique characters from traditional Korean fairy tales, such as the nine-tailed fox, fox, and grim reaper, will receive a lot of attention in the global market when they are recreated using AI technology,” adding, “We also expect that the five traditional Korean colors (blue, white, red, black, and yellow) will play an important role in implementing content colors.”

According to the company, AI Cruel Fairy Tale is preparing to submit to a number of international film festivals for global expansion in the second half of the year, and a pitching schedule has also been set for major content markets. Through this, the company plans to inform the world of the excellence of Korean traditional fairy tales as an IP and the innovation of AI technology, and explore possibilities in the global market.
